Donald Bruce Crom, 65, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 7:20 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was born in Washington, Iowa on July 20, 1953, the son of S. Luther and Icle (Nelson) Crom. He moved from Washington to near Lancaster, MO, where he graduated from high school in 1971. From there he joined the Navy and served during the Vietnam conflict. After discharge from the Navy he worked in San Diego, CA as a diesel mechanic aboard cruise ships out of San Diego and also Tampa, FL. He was an avid Nascar Race fan. He earned four awards for his service in Vietnam; they included the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ Device. He is survived by two sisters, Myrtle (Wayne) Reighard of Washington, IA and Ruth (Ray) Meth of Olds, IA; two brothers, William "Bill" Crom of Ft. Madison, IA and John (Lucille) Crom of Mason City, IA. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great and great greats also survive him. His parents preceded him in death. As per his wishes he has been cremated and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
