Deran and Dana DeLong are the brother-and-sister duo who have been working side by side for 25 years. During the 2019 Washington Chamber of Commerce annual dinner, DeLong Construction was awarded as the 2018 Business of the Year.

Erin Drahota, 2019 board president of the Washington Chamber of Commerce Executive Board, explained DeLong Construction was chosen because of their support for growth both economical and for the well-being of Washington.

“Over the years Larry DeLong and the DeLong family have always put giving back to and serving our community at the forefront,” she said. “Larry and his family have played a crucial role in shaping our community and often do so without recognition, but tonight it’s time to recognize him and the DeLong organization.”

Accepting the award was Deran DeLong who said it was his dad, Larry, whom he owes the credit of his success to.

“When Dana and I went into business 25 years ago, we really didn’t have any idea how to run a business successfully,” he said. “My dad helped us along the way but the most important thing he taught me was being a man of integrity and a man of God and that really helps me in the business world.”

DeLong joked he owes his sister for “putting up with” him after their quarter century of working together, but concluded by saying he was both thankful and honored to be receiving the award.

“Washington is where I was born and raised and I’m thrilled to help make it a better place,” he said.
