An officer reported being out with a subject who had a Mount Pleasant Police Department warrant, Wednesday morning on Highway 92 in Washington. Donald Eugene Williams, 49, of Brighton, was arrested on a Mount Pleasant Police Department warrant for third-degree theft. Bond was $500 cash or surety, extradition statewide. An officer transported the subject to the Henry County line. Henry County has custody of the subject.

A caller Wednesday night on Highway 92 in Washington reported witnessing a male subject assault a female in a vehicle parked in the Walmart parking lot. City units responded. Subjects denied the assault. Tomas Lukins Salazar III, 44, of Columbus Junction, was arrested on a charge of driving while barred. The female subject was picked up by the male subject’s father, and the vehicle would remain in the parking lot.

A caller Wednesday night at East Washington Street in Washington reported a two-vehicle accident with no injuries. Vehicles were still in the roadway. Two officers responded. Operators were David Lee Van Gerpen, of Washington, and a juvenile subject, of Brighton. David Lee Van Gerpen, 63, was arrested on a charge of OWI first offense.

Traffic accident

A caller Wednesday afternoon at East Washington Street and South Airport Road in Washington reported a two-vehicle accident with no injuries. The roadway was not blocked, and both vehicles had moved onto Airport Road. The vehicles were a white van and a black Chevrolet Malibu. Two officers responded. Vehicle operators were Reginald Paxton, of Brighton, and Rafael Rodas Estrada, of Bloomington, Illinois. Damages were more than $1,500. A state accident report will be filed. A citation was issued to Paxton for failure to stop at a safe and assured distance.

A caller Wednesday morning at Highway 218 and 220th Street in Ainsworth reported that a red Aveo had been parked there for more than a month. It had Johnson County plates. An officer responded. Documentation was made.

A subject dropped off a school bus violation report at the Police Department, Wednesday afternoon at East Washington Street in Washington. An officer responded. The incident is under investigation.

Fire calls

A caller Wednesday afternoon at East Main Street in Washington reported a gas leak outside, and a tree had fallen, as well. Washington Fire Department responded and advised that a tree limb fell on a gas main. Alliant Energy was contacted to respond. The City was notified about the tree limb.

Disorderly conduct

A caller Wednesday afternoon at South Avenue B in Washington reported an altercation between two students, and requested charges to be filed on one of the students, who would also be suspended from school for a day. An officer responded. Both students were charged with disorderly conduct. A report will be filed.

Family offense nonviolent

A caller Wednesday afternoon at West Adams Street in Washington reported that her daughter was out of control and was trying to leave with her granddaughter. City units responded. The daughter was transported to a different residence in Washington to stay for the night.

A caller Wednesday night at North Railroad Street in Ainsworth reported that her husband was arguing with her, and she wanted him to leave the residence. An officer responded. It was a verbal argument only. They will seek marriage counseling.

Welfare check

A caller early Thursday morning at North Eighth Avenue in Washington requested a welfare check on one of their drivers, who did not return from his route the previous day. An officer was advised. The reporting party called back, advising that they figured out his whereabouts.

All other theft

A caller Wednesday morning at East Washington Street in Washington reported a gas drive-off of $15.04 in the past 5 minutes, by a male subject. The license plate number was provided, and Dispatch contacted the registered owner. An officer was advised. The male operator did return and pay.

A caller Wednesday night at East Washington Street in Washington reported a gas drive-off of $10.02. The vehicle was a dark-colored Jeep Wrangler, last seen going westbound on East Washington Street. An officer was advised. Documentation was made.

All other offenses

A caller Wednesday evening at South Iowa Avenue reported on 911 that youngsters were on the roof of the business. Four juveniles were charged with criminal trespass and turned over to their parents.

A caller Wednesday night at North Fourth Avenue and East Third Street in Washington reported needing assistance with his girlfriend. The caller disconnected before more information was given.
