KEOKUK — Constant work yields steady improvement.
Macy Driscoll (55), Emma Nichols (56) and Madison Fishback (60) each shot their lowest scores of the golf season for Washington High School Thursday.
Teammate Kiki Guo led the way as the meat medalist, shooting 40. Josie Tanner had a 44 which was the second best score in the meet. Emily Waite and Carly Burlingame each shot a 45.
Washington had its lowest score this season with a 174. Fairfield had no team score. Keokuk scored 233.
“Everyone contributed,” Demons coach Len Kull said. “It was important to shoot well here because the conference tournament will be here and I think the way they played should make them pretty comfortable at the conference meet. Kiki was solid and she had a lot of pars. She shot the same as the last time she played here but I feel she played better. Josie had a bad start but maintained her composure. I was encouraged how she righted the ship. Emily and Carly were pretty excited about their score. They were feeling proud and they should be, all of them have done very well. It is great to see how their scores have improved. They are saving strokes around the green. They listen, pay attention and practice hard. The effort they gave was great. Pretty soon those low scores will be second nature to them.”
The Demons have a tough schedule going forward, “but the way they keep improving, we will take our chances,” Kull said. Washington plays at Donnellson Saturday then Monday in Burlington.
